The Improving Youth Employability intervention equips young people with practical skills, recognised qualifications and workplace experience to strengthen their transition into sustainable employment and income earning opportunities. Through On the Job Experience (OJE) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), the intervention supports youth in gaining new skills and experience, or in having skills they already possess formally assessed and recognised, improving their readiness and competitiveness in the labour market.

The On the Job Experience (OJE) intervention equips young people with practical skills and workplace experience to improve their transition into employment and self employment. Selected youth begin with Socio Emotional Skills Development (SESD) training, followed by trade selection and placement with a suitable Master Craftsman or employer for five months of hands on workplace training. Through OJE, participants gain practical technical skills, workplace exposure and experience while preparing for skills assessment and certification. The intervention ultimately seeks to support youth into sustainable livelihoods, including retention by their trainers, employment with other employers or self employment, while encouraging a culture of saving for greater financial resilience.

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) intervention enables young people who have acquired skills through work experience, informal training or practical learning to have their competencies formally assessed and recognised. Participants are supported to identify and document their existing skills, compile evidence of their experience, address identified skills gaps and prepare for competency assessment. Successful candidates receive a recognised certification, strengthening their ability to demonstrate their skills to employers and access better employment, career advancement and income earning opportunities. The intervention also promotes a culture of saving to help beneficiaries build greater financial security and resilience.
This component focuses on providing apprenticeship and employment opportunities for youth across various trades. We work with master craftsmen and employers to ensure that participants gain the technical skills they need to secure sustainable employment.
